International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day

According to UNESCO, during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed disrupting the education of 62.3 per cent of the world’s student population of 1.09 billion. In addition, 773 million adults and young people lack basic literacy skills. Obviously, these statistics affirmed the importance of literacy; moreso that literacy has been found to be an integral part of education crucial for driving sustainable development.

This year, we advocate the fusion of literacy with digital skills so the non-literate youth, adults, and populations can be liberated, empowered and live improved lives. This will contribute to building a solid foundation for a human-centred recovery now and in the future.

Happy International Literacy Day!
