World Population Day

World Population Day

With the number of deaths relative to the size of the population declining since the 1950s globally, the population of the world is projected to hit 8 billion this year; hence the need to promptly and adequately respond to the growing attendant implications.

Though advancements in global health have aided lifespans elongation, reduced maternal and child mortality, and enabled vaccine development in record time especially with the aid of technology, progress is still not universal. The world is still faced with the recurring problems of climate change, forced displacements, wars and violence that have existed for decades. Moreso, people are still being discriminated against based on gender, origin, ethnicity, religion, class, sexual orientation and disability, among others.

Therefore, governments, policy makers, non-governmental organizations and all other stakeholders must realize the need to constantly equip themselves with up-to-date information on the world’s population and its demography for proper development and economic planning (necessary for wealth creation and distribution), execution of health programs, and sustenance of social protection services for all ages.

As we work towards a resilient future for everyone, it is important we do not relent in initiating and maintaining policies and programs that can guarantee a prosperous and fulfilling world for everyone.

Happy World Population Day!
